I have always been interested in new ideas. Emerging companies provide platforms for bringing new ideas to the market. For me, finding ways for new ideas to succeed and then working to make that opportunity pay off is always fulfilling. Coming up with a new idea is generally a lot easier than achieving success with it. The issues of strategy, organization, technology and implementation pose challenges at every stage of a company’s evolution. Becoming a member of Sage Partners enabled me to link up with like-minded professionals who bring diverse and broad backgrounds together to provide a unique service to young and growing companie,s to maximize the potential of their new ideas and achieve success.

John’s career began at Xerox Corporation where he served as the Senior Research Director in the company’s Information Resources Group. In this role he led the applications and design research and testing of technologies developed at Xerox. Several of these projects led to innovative new products, and many of the findings and design parameters are now common elements in many leading software and hardware products.

Following Xerox John became a partner in Keilty, Goldsmith & Boone, a consulting firm specializing in strategic implementation and communications. John led the technology practice and served as the San Francisco office manager. In this role he served as the lead consultant to numerous organizations around the world including American Express, General Motors, Porsche North America, Midland Bank PLC, SBC, Xerox and many others. One of John’s clients, ADP, asked him to join as the Senior Vice President of Marketing & Product Development in the division focused on the property & casualty insurance marketplace. In this role John led the design, development and marketing of a new product that won the Bronze Medal for Excellence in Product Design from Business Week/American Institute of Industrial Design, and changed the way business was done. Following ADP, John served as the Chief Operating Officer of Oliver Wight International, a manufacturing consulting firm, where he led the successful turnaround of the firm. He then was recruited as President & Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Ultimate Business Systems, a software company specializing in accounts receivable systems. Here John led a revitalizing effort and took the company to the North American market leader position and successfully expanded operations to the UK and into the EU.

John was subsequently recruited by a syndicate of three venture capital firms to turn around an under-performing business analytics software company that had consumed a great deal of investment capital without successfully entering the marketplace. During his tenure, John was able to forge a key international alliance that enabled the company to enter a multibillion dollar vertical market in the US and the EU. The company was soon thereafter acquired by a large public company. Immediately John was recruited by the Board of Directors of OnScreen Technologies to join a turnaround effort of this public company. Over the course of a few months, John directed the development and marketing of two electronics products from engineering to full production, including building supply chains in the US, Canada, and People’s Republic of China.

John has a Bachelors degree in Cognitive Psychology and a Masters degree in Information Systems Design from Florida State University, and a Doctorate in Communications Technology and Computing from Columbia University. He is also a graduate of the Global Management Institute of The Thunderbird American Graduate School of International Management. John serves as a member of the Executive Advisory Board of the Salvation Army for Oregon and Idaho, and serves as an advisor to several early stage businesses.
