Michael King is a leader in applying technology to the challenges facing Education and learning. He was the worldwide leader for the IBM Education Industry with responsibility for strategy, marketing, and sales across schools and higher education. He led IBM’s work with Education, such as consulting and IT services, analytics, and other software, as well as cloud and high-performance computing.

 

Michael’s passion has been leveraging new technology to improve education within institutions and for students. He helped deliver programs like ThinkPad University, Insight at School, LearningVillage, and many others. In IBM’s corporate training segment, he led marketing, strategy, and partner programs. Most recently, he directed IBM’s work for cognitive computing in Education, bringing Watson to the classroom, campus, and career.

 

Michael serves on the boards of organizations focused on Education, such as the Board of Trustees of Strada Education Network, supporting their mission of “completion with a purpose.” He served on the board and as chair of the Business – Higher Education Forum, a leadership group dedicated to improving the alignment of Education with workforce needs.  He has supported the development of open standards for learning, serving many years on the Board of Directors of 1EdTech (IMS Global Learning Consortium), which fosters collaboration to build interoperable technology systems. 

 

Michael is an active advisor, investor, and board member in EdTech startups.  He brings his passion and experience to these ventures to define markets, create compelling strategies, and execute growth plans.  As President and Chief Growth Officer at Global Grid for Learning, he defined and created a privacy-centered platform to transform K12 education. He continues to serve on the Board.

 

Michael holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and Nuclear Engineering from Kansas State University and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles.  When not advising startups, he can be found exploring the beaches and deserts of Southern California with his wife and two children.
